History
Sharon
and I built a house on ten acres and moved to Warren in the
winter of 1998. Subsequent to that we bought several more acres
to total 16.5. In that same year we were given a registered
American Quarter Horse mare that was recovering from a very
serious leg injury. I never have liked the idea of an animal
being alone. So I thought that we would get a couple of nannies
to keep the mare company. The nannies were 75% Boer. After a
while we decided to have the mare and the nannies bred. We
ended up with four horses and several goats, all percentage.
The goats were easy to handle, affectionate and friendly. They
seemed to each have a unique personality and were very amusing.
We had a difficult time, early on, not knowing how to care for
the goats and not knowing of many sources of help. We lost
several goats to various disease complexes that could have been
easily treated if we would have been more knowledgeable. We had
all types and mixes of goats until 2004, some being fullblood
Boer. We decided to exclusively raise Boers
and to improve on the quality of the animals. We thought
that getting a better billy would help, and it did. But,
I slowly learned that it takes good billies and good
nannies to consistently make good kids. The key is
consistency. In 2006 we purchased two of the best quality
show does that we could afford. RA Miss Dab was purchased
from Calvin Taylor of Rolling Acres and Lookout Valley’s
Rita was purchased from James Kyle of Lookout Valley Meat
Goats. Dab and Rita have done well in the show ring and
have passed inspection for ABGA ennoblement. Our herd now
consist of 100% Fullblood Boars and does to serve as
recips.
Our first flush of Dab and Rita has been
planned for October of 2007. Dab had doe kids in February of
2007, one of which is show quality. Yaffa will join her mother
and Rita as our foundational stock. We are excited about the
upcoming flush and hope to post pictures of the kids. I want to
thank Calvin Taylor for all the advice, help and support that
he has given us in the show ring and in the development of our
herd. Calvin is a valued friend. Without the work and support
of my wife, Sharon, we would not be where we are. Of course,
without the Lord God nothing would be possible! We are looking
forward to your e-mails, phone calls and mostly your
visits.
…The LORD bless thee, and keep thee, the LORD
make His face shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee, the
LORD lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace...
